A Prayer for Our Nation

Our loving heavenly Father, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, in these special times let us be mindful of your Sovereign rule. The Psalmist said it long ago “if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3). You sit above all the affairs of man.  You reign over all, you guide history to its appointed purpose, you overrule and guide us by your providence and you rule the world for your glory.

Lord, we are living in a polarized, angry, scared, financially-strapped, immoral society.  Please help us claim with a renewed spirit that our comfort in life and in death is that we are not our own, but belong body and soul to our faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

Guide us, our Father, as our nation turns another page in its history and our new president is sworn in. Let us always be mindful that our president is your servant and is placed in office to your pleasure and design. Please grant him wisdom and discernment. It is our prayer that you would place Godly leaders around him and that you would and guide him as he appoints persons to serve in his cabinet and The Supreme Court. May the sanctity of life be restored in our nation.

We pray that you would remind us constantly of Proverbs 14:34: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is an approach to any people.”  May this world know that our security, our future, and our life will come ultimately from none other than Him who made us and gave up His life for our sins.

We pray for the church in America. We are the people of God. Christians are under attack by those oppose the truth of your Word. Give us strength to be salt and light in the world. Give us conviction to take a stand for truth even when it is not popular. May we be bold as we proclaim the Word of God.

Desires of the Nations, please rescue, deliver, guide, gladden, and astound us. Give us faith to believe, hope to persevere, and love to demonstrate the love of God.

This we pray in the name of our Prophet, Priest and King who is alive and who reigns both now and forever. Amen
